To believe or not believe?

I heard the comfort of their voices on the radio today.
Like an old friend, they had some wise words to say.

I was captivated by the lyrics and their inspiring strength.
I let the words simmer a bit and listened at length.

Songs seem so personal but are for anyone who feels the words apply.
I took the song to heart though for reasons I just cannot deny.

It's time for me to stake my claim and stand my ground.
Forget the silence you consider part of the world going around.

It's not natural nor respected and it's not okay.
I'm sitting here beside you and I'm not going away.

I travel the same road, and I plead my same case.
Will you sit here like a stone as always just taking up space?

You will do anything to avoid this uncomfortable conversation.
But I demand your complete attention without reservation.

I'm about to be hit by quite an amazing surprise.
I think a new man is right before my very eyes.

As I sadly wait to hear the words that have always stung my ears,
A "yes" flows from your lips; the yes I yearned for years.

My tears have finally found their way inside your heart.
Maybe you can see I'm breaking and I am ever so slowly falling apart.

I know the timing could not be worse for our life has gone astray.
Everything is up in the air and not much is going our way.

You can surely use our situation as just the right excuse.
But the dream has come back around and I'm not letting loose.

So now we wait to see if your words were meant to pacify.
Or can I trust you to let me sing a promised lullabye?
